Nutrition Nugget: Water
Bite size for your health and waistline
I’m sure we’ve all had days where we do not know why we’re moody, hungry, tired, and have a dull headache? Where our skin doesn’t feel hydrated, or even you notice adult acne? Surprisingly, these seemingly unrelated symptoms can come from the identical source: you’re not drinking enough water!

Of course, we’ve dropped some ounces here and there, which frequently leaves us with two questions:
- what proportion do we really need to drink daily?
- What are the results of not getting it all?
Let’s cater to the first question. a standard rule of thumb is to follow the “8 x 8” rule. meaning drinking 8.8 oz glasses of water every day , for a complete of 64 ounces. Alternatively, some experts recommend drinking half your weight in ounces. for instance , if you weigh 200 pounds, you’d drink 100 ounces a day.
Whether your goal is 64 ounces or 100 ounces, how can we make sure we get it all? Here are some easy ways to get your H20 fix every day!
My personal favorite is drinking through a straw or from a bottle. That way, we will carry it with us wherever we go, and it is a constant visual experience to sip on. I also like that with a straw, I’m less likely to swallow air together with the water, making it easier on behalf of me to eat.
I have several clients who like to set their alarm to go off every hour. It’s their reminder to drink 8 oz. we will use the same method when pursuing a greater goal. Set your alarm more often and you will drink even more throughout the day!
If you are not a fan of the pure taste of water, try throwing in some citrus or cucumbers and see how you wish it! It can be in your glass or in a jug that you have in the fridge. The longer the fruit and/or zucchini sit within the water, the stronger the absorbed flavor.
Now for question two: what are the results of water scarcity? Or really, what benefits am i able to expect if I focus on it?
By increasing water intake, we will experience less fatigue, a healthier appearance and more moisturized skin and proper digestion. Proper hydration also promotes proper function and fewer stress on important organs, potentially boosting metabolism, relieving constipation, bloating, and better of all, replenishing energy. i’m wondering why this isn’t a bigger topic in the wellness world!
