Overview
Neurological Surgery P.C. The Health Science Competition (NSPC HSC), a program of the middle for Science Teaching and Learning (CSTL), is that the first and only health science competition in the United States. it’s designed to spark an interest in Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) among students who attend high school in Suffolk and Nassau counties with a major in the health sciences.
Process
This competition may be a scientific research competition similar to a science fair. Any highschool student who meets the geographic criteria can enter. Registration opens on October 16, 2019 at 12:00:00 EST at www.cstl.org/nspc health and teams must register by April 30, 2020 at 12:00:00 EST. Teams must then complete the right forms, which are detailed within the rules and can be found under the Rules and Forms tab. Teams must reach the contest location by May 27, 2020 at 9:00 AM EST. Late arrivals won’t be allowed to compete.
Criteria
Research question: ___/10 Is there a transparent and focused purpose? Does it identify the contribution to the field of study? Is it testable by scientific methods? Design & Methodology: ___/15 Is there a well-designed plan with data collection methods? Are variables and controls defined, appropriate, and complete? Is scientific thinking demonstrated within the methods? Execution: ___/20 Was there systematic data collection? Are the results reproducible? Was enough data collected to support the results? Were mathematical and statistical methods used correctly? Creativity: ___/20 Was the project demonstrably creative in the above categories? Poster: ___/10 Was the poster well organized and was its message clear? Presentation: ___/25 Were the answers clear and concise? Did the students understand the science behind their project? Was the research conducted with a degree of independence? Were the potential impacts on science and health acknowledged? Did all team members contribute to and understand the project?
